OPEN CALL FOR TEN PHOTO ESSAY COMMISSIONS ON ONE PLANET LIVING

FotoDocument is partnering Photoworks and BioRegional to commission ten public space photo essays launching during Brighton Photo Biennial 2014 and to remain in situ for ten months.
Each of the ten essays will be themed on one of the principles of One Planet Living and works will be installed in a corresponding key public space in Brighton & Hove.
The list of prospective venues (subject to change) includes:
ZERO WASTE – Waste House, Brighton
SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT – Brighton Railway Station
SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS – Emmaus, Portslade
LOCAL & SUSTAINABLE FOOD – Open Market, London Rd
SUSTAINABLE WATER – Brighton Seafront
LAND USE & WILDLIFE – Foredown Tower, Portslade
ZERO CARBON – Venue TBC
CULTURE & COMMUNITY – Dome Cafe-Bar
EQUITY & LOCAL ECONOMY – The Amex Community Football Stadium (tbc)
HEALTH & HAPPINESS – Sussex County Cricket Ground
The exhibitions will collectively form an ‘arts story trail’ around the city and be accompanied by a map and literature to illustrate the route and significance.
Eligibility
Submissions are welcomed from established and emerging photographers. Postgraduate students will also be considered. To apply, photographers must be at least 18 years old, live in the UK and have a valid UK bank account.
Judging
The judging panel will be made up of leading talents in the field of photography including Simon Roberts (photographer), Celia Davies (Photoworks), Nina Emett (FotoDocument), Melanie Friend (University of Sussex), Professor Francis Hodgson (Financial Times, University of Brighton) as well as Pooran Desai from BioRegional and Thurstan Crockett from Brighton & Hove City Council.
Photographers will be judged on the artistic excellence of their existing work, their track record of delivering documentary photography projects and their motivation for undertaking this commission.
Fee
Each selected photographer will receive a fee of £2.5k to include travel and subsistence. Further funds are available to cover printing and installation costs.
