FotoDocument has received funding from Arts Council England and Brighton & Hove City Council and has launched its first photo documentary project with the environment as the theme. We have commissioned a small group of photographers worldwide to create a coherent and innovative body of documentary photographs on this important issue.

We have commissioned photographers who have a proven track record in creating dynamic documentary photography and who have presented an exciting project idea highlighting solutions to climate change and environmental degradation.

Following our call for submissions, we received over 300 expressions of interest and 90 completed applications. FotoDocument’s judging panel shortlisted nine documentary photographers from around the world on the strength of their photography and proposals.

FotoDocument has established a partnership with Southern Railway to showcase the photographic work at a selection of its train stations across the southeast rail network from May 2012, with Brighton station as the premier exhibition site.

In April 2012, a small selection of exhibition photographs will also be installed in the plate-glass windows of the Jubilee Library, an award-winning eco building which regularly hosts public art and is situated in Brighton’s cultural quarter.

Additionally, a small selection of exhibition photographs will also be installed at HOST gallery (run by our partner Foto8) in central London in November 2012 accompanied by a master class seminar in photography. The seminar will be co-run by Foto8 and FotoDocument and will include speakers, screenings, debate and portfolio review.

We will also run an education programme in schools with Sussex Wildlife Trust and Resource Futures.

Our online fringe photography project will launch in the autumn and will invite participation from budding photograhers all over the world.
