On the 24th July, FotoDocument, Brighton & Hove City Council, BioRegional, Brighton & Hove 10:10, Southern Rail and Brighton Energy Coop will be running activities in Brighton Railway Station to promote energy initiatives in the city.
The Fotodocument exhibition, FotoRenewables, has been highlighting positive responses to environmental issues via forty photographs on large panels displayed in Brighton Railway Station since May. To celebrate its success and engage the public in the exhibition’s theme, event partners will be sharing information, showcasing projects and running interactive stalls from 11.00 to 15.00 on Tuesday 24th July. The day will be a chance to highlight new and innovative projects in the city and offer the opportunity for the community to engage with the organisations behind them.
Brighton and Hove City Council and BioRegional will have representatives present to promote the new e-learning tool that demonstrates the One Planet Living principle. Currently, if everyone consumed natural resources and generated carbon dioxide at the rate that people living in Brighton & Hove do, we would need not one, but three and a half planets to support us. BioRegional has developed an approach to creating a future where people can lead high quality lives within the environmental limits of the planet called One Planet Living.
Brighton Energy Coop, who are part way through installing some of the largest community owned renewable energy installations in the UK here in Brighton, will be showcasing their projects and letting people know how they can join the cooperative.
Brighton and Hove 10:10 will continue to raise awareness around energy use and canvas people’s opinions for their Climate Talks video. So far, people of all ages and backgrounds have shared their candid views on the environment and the groups trusted with protecting it.
FotoDocument will be canvassing public opinion on the exhibitions and giving out information about the organisation.
Councillor Pete West, Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability at Brighton & Hove City Council said: “It’s fantastic to see this exhibition in Brighton station, to inspire people for a whole year with beautiful images of positive environmental action from around the world; it fits completely with our vision for a more sustainable city based on One Planet living, so the Council is delighted to be supporting it.”
Nina Emett, Director at FotoDocument, said: “We are delighted to be involved in this event at Brighton Railway Station with our project partners so that we can engage with the public on the important issue of energy sourcing and consumption and collectively work towards a more sustainable planet.”
