Southern Railway provides train services for commuters, airport users, business travellers and leisure travellers in and around South London, between Central London and the South Coast, through East and West Sussex, Surrey and parts of Kent and Hampshire. Around 4,000 employees, work around the clock to keep our stations tidy and trains running on time. Across our network we manage 156 stations, including London Victoria, London Bridge, Gatwick Airport and Brighton, and we operate a fleet of around 300 trains. Southern runs over 2,200 train services each weekday and last year, 164 million passenger journeys were made on the 414 miles of track on our network. Southern services link communities together and we aim to be a member of the communities we serve.
Our thriving station partnership scheme has brought many stations and communities together through joint working to create station gardens, community notice boards and art displays to name but a few initiatives. Southern’s partnership with FotoDocument and our sponsorship of this One Planet City exhibition promoting sustainable travel is a great example of how when working with local communities, we can achieve common goals. In 2014 we were pleased to have been presented with the Big Tick award for our Corporate Responsibility work at the Arts and Business Awards. Big Ticks are awarded to businesses who demonstrate significant achievement in tackling key social and environmental issues. The Ticks are part of Business in the Community’s celebration of arts engagement, in line with their larger social agenda.
